HVAC Design in Broomfield: Manual J, S & D Done Right
Comfort starts with design. We calculate what your home actually needs, choose equipment that matches it, and size the ductwork to deliver it, so every room stays comfortable and your system runs quietly and efficiently.
- Room-by-room heating and cooling loads
- Equipment matched to your home at Colorado altitude
- Supply and return ducts sized for each room
- Airflow and static pressure verified after the work
Manual J, Manual S and Manual D, explained
Each step builds on the one before it. Skip one and the system can be the wrong size, the wrong match, or starved for air.
Manual J: Load Calculation
How much heating and cooling each room needs, based on your home's insulation, windows, orientation, air leakage and Colorado's design temperatures.
About Manual J →Manual S: Equipment Selection
Choosing a furnace, AC or heat pump whose real capacity at Broomfield's altitude and design conditions matches the Manual J load.
About Manual S →Manual D: Duct Design
Sizing supply and return ducts so each room gets the airflow its load calls for, within what the blower can actually push.
About Manual D →Most comfort complaints are design problems
An oversized system short-cycles: it heats or cools fast, shuts off, and leaves rooms uneven and the air stuffy. An undersized duct system chokes the blower, raises static pressure, and makes the whole system louder and less efficient.
Putting a bigger unit on the same ductwork rarely helps. Fixing the design does.
- Upstairs rooms that are hot every summer
- A basement or bonus room that never warms up
- A system that runs constantly and never catches up
- Noisy registers and whistling returns
- High energy bills for the comfort you get
- Short cycling, on and off every few minutes
How we put HVAC design to work in your home
Duct Design & Modifications
New returns, resized trunks and supply runs, sealing and balancing to fix airflow at the source.
Duct design →Hot & Cold Rooms
We measure where the air is going and correct the rooms that never feel right.
Fix uneven rooms →New System Installation
Furnaces, AC and heat pumps sized with a Manual J and installed on ductwork that can support them.
Heating & cooling →From measurements to a system that performs
Measure
Static pressure, airflow, room temperatures and your notes on which rooms struggle.

HVAC design questions
What are Manual J, Manual S and Manual D?
They're the ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) design standards for home HVAC. Manual J calculates how much heating and cooling each room needs, Manual S selects equipment that matches that load, and Manual D sizes the ductwork to deliver the right airflow to each room.
Do I need HVAC design if I'm just replacing a furnace or AC?
Yes. A replacement is the best time to get it right. Many existing systems were sized by rule of thumb or copied from the old unit, and the ductwork was never checked. We confirm sizing with a Manual J on every install and check the ductwork so the new system can actually perform.
Can you fix a hot or cold room without replacing my system?
Often, yes. Most uneven temperatures come from airflow problems such as missing returns, undersized supply runs or leaky ducts. Duct modifications can fix them without new equipment.
Do you design systems for additions and finished basements?
Yes. We calculate the new space's load and design supply and return runs for it, or recommend a ductless mini-split when extending the existing ductwork doesn't make sense.
